Winter Fun on a Budget

Feb 27, 2015 | On a budget

Winter may not be the most comfortable time of the year for everyone. With blistering cold temperatures, it’s almost impossible to not want to sink into hibernation. It may seem like various activities dwindle due to the cold weather, but that’s far from the truth.

You can still have fun during the winter season and on a budget. Here are some fun “to dos” that you should give a shot.

Ice Skating

Ice Skating

There’s no better way to celebrate the winter like ice skating outdoors. It is especially fun being around other people on the rink, because everyone has the same goal—don’t fall! (*insert laugh here)

If you don’t know how to skate, you will definitely get a kick out of struggling to stay on your feet and not on your behind! Learning something new will make you feel like a kid all over again.

Go with a group of friends and play tag! If none of you know how to skate, it will be hilarious to see how long it takes to catch each other.

If you go by yourself, don’t be afraid to engage with other people. You’ll see a lot of friendly faces and there’s always a group of people who are willing to play some games on ice.

Check the admission prices in your area. Some rinks charge $6 for skates and $6 for admission.

Restaurant Tour

Restaurant Tour

Make a budget for yourself and a friend, research a cool restaurant that you’ve never been to and go there to eat lunch. See how much you can order on the cheap.

While you’re at it, you might as well make this a day of free adventures. Go to the mall, window shop and get free samples at the food court.

Become an amateur landscape photographer and take photos of the scenery in your area.

Your options and opportunities are endless. You just have to find the right activities for you!

Bookstore

Bookstore

I love going to the bookstore and reading magazines and books for free. Grab a couple of coffee if there’s a Starbucks inside and get first dibs on the coziest chair. There’s no pressure to purchase. Just lounge and read.

Redbox Movie Night

If you must stay inside, make it a blockbuster Redbox night! It’s only $1 so grab one or four and binge on the movies you missed out on at the theater.

Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you have to avoid having fun. Remember—the fun follows you wherever you go.
